I’m too busy to exercise…
Out of all the reasons people use to not exercise, ‘no time’ has to be the most popular. Whether you are in the corporate world, doing shift work or are a full time parent, there’s no doubt you are busy. But if you ask around, I’m sure most people will give you the same response.
So what does that tell you? Everyone is busy!! Despite this fact, some people still manage to exercise whilst others do not. If you need to ‘find time’ to exercise, you won’t do it…you need to make time. Here are a few ways to make exercise (and your health) a priority.
Get up earlier! Set your alarm to go off just 10mins earlier each day for a week, then by the end of the week you’ll have an extra hour. If you exercise in the morning, you don’t have to worry about making time later on when you are late or tired etc.
Do shorter workouts. You don’t necessarily need to spend hours at the gym. You can burn heaps of calories in as little as 20-30mins by doing high intensity cardio intervals (think treadmill/bike or skipping), or circuits (incoporating resistance exercises with cardio and short rest) or supersets (doing back to back exercises with minimal rest)
Incorporate exercise whilst doing other things. Eg make a rule that you everytime you get a text message you will do abs for 5 mins, or do squats and walking lunges whilst doing housework or holding the baby
Put your workout in your diary. Schedule your exercise like any other important appointment that is in your calendar, with an alarm to remind you. There are even lots of Apps available that help you track your workouts, so these may be a good idea for you.
Remember: If you do what you’ve always done – you’ll get what you’ve always gotten! So do something different – if you really want to change, you will make the changes you need. It’s all in your hands.
